Course Objective: To learn belay techniques, lead climbing, and basic and advanced rope work for lead climbing outdoors. By the end of the two-day course, each climber will understand the risks and dangers of lead climbing in nature and will be prepared to climb independently in the field if they are ready. Fitness Requirements: Experience climbing at a 5c level or above at an indoor climbing wall, or bouldering at V2-V3. You don't need to be an expert climber, but you should come to the course after several months of consistent climbing on the wall or bouldering. Day 1 - On the Rock Introduction to and learning about the gear and knots we use, learning movement on rock, top rope belaying, lead belaying with different friction devices, and lead climbing on different rock routes. Understanding the theoretical aspects of climbing: the different types of textile gear used, metal gear types, standards and certifications, various knots for climbing and rappelling, what a guidebook is, etc. Day 2 - Becoming a Belay Master Learning and practicing dynamic belaying for different fall scenarios, extensive practice in cleaning anchors at the end of a route, and using semi-automatic locking belay devices. Understanding what "theoretical fall factor" and "practical fall factor" are, the forces involved during a fall, how to plan a route, and how to read a route. Day 3 (Optional) Learning and understanding the world of rappelling: learning additional knots, how to set up a rappel anchor using natural anchors, how to rappel, how to set up a top rope anchor from the top of a cliff, solving simple rappelling issues, and climbing prusiks on the rope. This is suitable for those interested not only in learning to lead climb in the field but also in diving deeper into rappelling, thereby becoming more independent and equipped with a larger toolkit for solving problems if they arise. (Available for an additional fee) Instructor Ratio: 1 instructor per four participants (1:4). This excellent instructor-to-participant ratio ensures both safety and quality guidance, allowing for more nuances that you won’t find elsewhere. Location: Cliffs around Israel - Beit Aryeh, Zanoach, Ein Prat, Yonim, Gita. Price: 920 NIS per person, up to four people. Minimum of three participants per course. No equipment is needed, except for your climbing shoes.
